The 2024 Iditaord Sled Dog Race was an amazing once in a lifetime adventure! It presented new challenges for our team. Pleasant temperatures in the first half of the race, changed to brutally cold temperatures later in the race. Sleep deprivation was a real challenge, and included falling asleep and losing the team when I fell off my sled on my face in the snow. The biggest challenge was when the dogs weren't feeling well and weren't eating well. They were losing energy and moving slowly, which resulted in taking a few unscheduled rest breaks. We grew futher and further behind the other teams, and was told "Your race is over," between Kaltag and Unalakleet. I'd assumed we'd been withdrawn from the race. We continued to mush, arriving to Unalakleet, which is where our 2024 journey ended.
The dogs were amazing and it was beautiful to watch them run and work in the Alaskan wilderness. 700 miles was a long journey and the furthest we have ever mushed. I've learned a lot and would love another opportunity to run the race again. A couple changes I would make would be to do more camping trips during training, add more varieties of different meat and kibble during the race, and carry less gear in my sled (hopefully). I would also like to avoid getting injured a month before the race, like I did in 2024 (broken shoulder blade and broken ribs!). If you'd like to see me enter the 2025 Iditarod, send me a message and let me know. I was overwhelmed with all of the support and well wishes I received during the 2024 race, and after the race.
Photos from my Iditarod journey are included in the photo gallery. Unfortunately my phone wouldn't turn on after the temperatures dropped (-40F!) and I didn't get a lot of photos.
The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is a challenging 1000 mile race across Alaska.
We welcome anyone interested in making a contribution to our journey, large or small.
Smaller donations help purchase equipment and dog food as needed. For example, a new harness costs $28. A dog coat is $50. A set of booties for one dog costs $4. Booties for a full sixteen dog team cost $64, and a new set is used for each run during the race. A bag of kibble costs $40. You get the idea. It all adds up.
Larger donations can relieve a lot of stress as to the race logistics and planning. We would be happy to promote your company on our website, social media, sleds, parkas, or dog trailer. Feel free to contact us with any inquiries or submit any donations with our Venmo link. Thank you for helping us fulfill this dream! Your support has made a difference and is much appreciated!
